Good morning again HHS, we are very glad to see everybody back for the start of this school year. We hope you had a wonderful summer and you’re ready to get off to a great start on Day 1. So if you have questions or you’re not sure of where you need to be, just ask one of our staff members and they’ll help you out.
Over the summer, the North Carolina legislature passed House Bill 959, which bans students from using cell phones during instructional time. That goes into effect at Hayesville High School today. What this means is that during any class period, students must power down their cell phones (not silenced) and keep them out of sight. Teachers may require students to keep their powered down phones stored in whatever way works for that class. So starting right now, the only times you can have your cell phone on is before school, after school, during passing periods and during breakfast or lunch. I’ll keep reminding you of this throughout the day today.
Students who drive to and from school need to always exit the student parking lots TOWARD Myers Chapel Rd when you are leaving campus at 2:55. Seniors who are leaving the senior parking lot need to exit through the MIDDLE exit and turn left. If you’re arriving at school before 7:45 you need to enter Yellow Jacket Drive from the Myers Chapel Rd end, not the circle. Please be patient and careful because there are a lot of vehicles and pedestrians out there in the mornings and afternoons.
Students who are ready to start Drivers Ed, you should go register at wncdrivingschool.com. The 200 question exemption test will be given here at the high school at noon on Saturday September 13. You have to be at least 14 ½ years old. Remember that website is wncdrivingschool.com and this is also posted on our Facebook page.
Parking Permit Request Forms are in the front office. Any student who will be parking on campus needs to complete this form. There is no charge for student parking this year.
Students who need schedule corrections need to check the email from Mrs. Cothren that was sent out last Tuesday at around 1pm. That email has a google form for you to put in what the issue is with your schedule.
