Wilma West

My name is Wilma West. My roots run deep in Hayesville. My parents, grandparents and great-grandparents called Hayesville home. My family moved away for job opportunities. Thirteen years ago my husband,Kenny, and I decided to move back to Hayesville to finish raising our children. We have 2 children who graduated Hayesville High School, Emily West Mull and Phillip West. Emily has now started her teaching career at HHS in the Science department. My son has graduated WCU and has a job in the business field.

I started working for Clay County Schools as a substitute teacher and was hired to be an assistant in the newly developed Alternative School, a postition I held for 4 years.

I moved to the high school in 2005 to work with the Occupational Course of Study (OCS) students in the Busy Bee Enterprise. The Busy Bee Enterprise is an on-campus printing based business for the OCS students. The students learn the processes of developing a small business. They must learn computer skills through Photo Shop, PrintMaster and Corel Draw. They also learn how to order, sell, and make products. In addiition to being able to work through the issues in the Busy Bee, students learn a diverse curriculum of job-related applications.

I also teach a math course for a class of NC Extended Content Standard students. We work on their banking, home finances, and daily math functioning skills.
