Nancy Paine

Hello, I am Nancy Paine Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at Hayesville High. I grew up on a farm in Whittier , NC where my parents still reside. I earned my B.S. in Education from Western Carolina University. I chose my profession initially, because I was interested in becoming an Interior Designer but I also wanted to teach. The program for design was offered through the Home Economics Department at Western, so I merged the two. I began my teaching career at Erwin High School in Buncombe County. I also worked in the banking industry for a few years before meeting my husband, Russell and beginning a family.

Russ and I have two sons, William, who lives in Montgomery , Alabama and Thomas a graduate student at NC State Univ. I was a stay-at-home mom for seventeen years seven of those spent home schooling our two sons. Because of my husband's job, we moved around the country for twenty years before finally settling back in North Carolina ten years ago. I taught for Cherokee County Schools before coming to Hayesville in 2007.

I enjoy my daily walks with my three dogs, reading, working crossword puzzles, sewing, baking, and traveling to see our children.

The courses I teach are Parenting and Child Development, Foods I, Personal Finance, Apparel Development I, Advanced Studies, and Housing and Interiors. Family and Consumer Sciences courses help prepare students for family life, work life, and financial management. Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Education empowers individuals to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society and helps them to develop essential skills and knowledge needed to achieve quality of life.

Thanks for visiting my page and check back fro time to time as I learn more about Moodle and begin posting information for students.
