Jonathan Hensley
I am currently enrolled in the Alternative Licensure program at Western Carolina University to become certified in Social Studies. These courses are all taken online via internet. I chose history as my subject area because I have always had a great interest in the past and how the world and our nation have developed over time. My Uncle Blaine Whitson was a high school history teacher, coach, and later became a principal. He had a huge impact on me and served as a role model which ultimately played a key role in the path that I have chosen to take with my life. I am an avid fly fisherman and love the outdoors. The Appalachian Mountains are a great place to live especially for someone with hobbies and interest such as these. I come from a very close knit family. Rev. Thomas Hensley and Pansy Hensley raised my sister and I in Burnsville, NC where we attended Mountain Heritage High School. My father pastors MountainDale Freewill Baptist Church in Erwin, TN. I owe everything to my parents for raising me in the old fashioned tradition where God is put first and most important in your life. My sister Beth Hensley Sutherland and her husband Chris Sutherland are also teachers. Beth teaches at Mars Hill Elementary in Madison County where she was voted teacher of the year in 2008. Chris is a speech pathologist in the Yancey County School system. I coach JV and Varsity football at Hayesville and assist the Track and Field Team as well.
