Everything ties to Science! If you don't believe me, try to think of something that doesn't… Be prepared, though, ‘cause I'll make you prove it to me…after all, I did grow up in the “Show-Me” State! In fact, I grew up in the Ozark mountains in a little town smaller than Hayesville! After high school I earned a B.A. in Mass Communications from Missouri Southern State University. I married my high school sweetheart, Steve, and we have three great kids; Zachary, Rachel and Jacob. I spent nearly 15 years at home in my happiest “job”, as a wife and mother …(Please notice, I didn't write “homemaker”; I LOVE to cook, it's that “cleaning thing” that I just can't seem to figure out!!!)
When our youngest child started Kindergarten I realized I wouldn't have anyone to blame the messy house on anymore so I decided to find a “real” job. Eventually realizing I would be happiest teaching, I went back to school and earned a B.S. in Science Education from Western Carolina University. My first two years teaching were over the mountain where I made guinea pigs of kids at Franklin High School (who were great sports by the way). While I really enjoyed the anonymity (the kids didn't know where I lived so they couldn't TP my house), I knew my heart was here. I'm so grateful to Dr. Gail Criss for hiring me in the fall of 2005. I enjoy being part of this caring community that is so dedicated to learning. My goal as an educator is to help students become more confident “THINKERS” ! I hope individuals in my class learn to question, reason, discern, challenge sources, and predict possible outcomes BEFORE making decisions. Science provides a great opportunity for students to practice these “thinking” objectives which can be applied to everything else in their lives! Ha…I just tied everything to Science!
Thanks for visiting my page. Please browse some of the links to REALLY COOL sites that make learning this stuff even more fun!
The curriculum for courses I teach is based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study which can be found at the following site: Follow the “K-12 Curriculum” link to “Science” then “Standard Course of Study” then “Grade Level Competencies”.
