Educational Background: Graduated summa cum laude from Western Carolina University--BS in Mathematics, 1989

I chose Math because a teacher I had a Tri-County Community College, Martin Burrell. He noticed that I was helping other students in my college algebra class. He said I was very good at being a "teacher" for my classmates in math and suggested that I become a math teacher.

Courses I teach: Honors Geometry, Advanced Functions and Modeling, Algebra A & B

Hobbies/Interests: Reading, camping, hisotry, science, and theater

Family: Husband, Douglas P. Somervell--master luthier; daughter--Lenora L. Somervell--junior at Brandeis University, Boston; son--Jesse Somervell--junior at Hayesville High School

Other duties: Work 4 days/week in Homework Center helping students primarily with math, but also with other subjects
